Frankwood Addition

Design Concept & Building Permits
Veterans' Housing—or as it’s known in the trenches of Canadian architectural lore, Victory Homes—is more than just a housing project. It’s a cornerstone of the national psyche, a tangible reminder of post-war ambition. Over 30,000 homes sprang up across Canada, courtesy of the Wartime Housing Corporation, the government’s wartime brainchild that would later evolve into the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation. A concrete legacy, built with the blood, sweat, and resolve of a nation.

Fast-forward to today, and the clients want to pay homage to that tradition while making their mark. They don’t just want a renovation; they want a modern addition to the back—a clear statement of now, while staying rooted in the then. The magic trick? A diagonal view corridor sliced into the plan, giving the illusion of space expanding outward, stretching the walls and inviting the backyard in. It’s a subtle nod to the compact nature of these homes, bending the rules of their original design without betraying the core spirit. It’s not just a renovation; it’s an evolution.
