Pinwheel
In Progress
Just outside Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, a couple is leaving Toronto behind to return home, building a retirement sanctuary that’s more than just a house. Inspired by a pinwheel, the design eliminates corridors, instead featuring interconnected shared spaces that radiate outward, with private rooms at the edges. The heart of the home is a striking rotating fireplace and metal hip roof, anchoring the entire structure.
From inside, views stretch in all four directions, connecting the space to the natural world. A sprawling veranda wraps around the house, extending the interior into the exterior, blurring the lines between indoors and out.
It’s a home designed to breathe, to move, to make a statement that the best part of life isn’t a place, it’s the freedom to live fully in any direction.
